The Most Awesome Protagonist
Multi-instrumentalist and auteur of San Francisco’s ultimate DIY project, The Most Awesome Protagonist, Mikey O’Connor specializes in songs as powerful and haunting as they are thoroughly enjoyable. His latest album, “The Notable Agoraphobics EP” showcases six songs ranging from fully backed pop ballads to lo-fi acoustic tracks, all featuring O’Connor’s characteristic multi-part vocal harmonies. Influenced by such tragic songwriters as Daniel Johnston and Elliott Smith, O’Connor tells stories of isolation and daily misery eased by love or fueled by alcohol. With his songs as skillfully varied as the instruments he plays, and the self release of his fourth EP on the way, The Most Awesome Protagonist continues as a persuasive force in the independent scene he has come to epitomize.
“Another solo project, The Most Awesome Protagonist has released two new songs from his forthcoming EP “The Notable Agoraphobics”. This song sounds kind of like it’s on crack or that someone hit the 45 rpm setting on the record player accidentally, but the lovely vocals and the nice timing of the song keep it tame and very listenable.
