Section M Reunion Show

It’s been years since I first started distributing Section M magazines in high school. A rotating group of friends and I ( Jana, Nichole, Annie, Jennie ) were so excited to have some small part in the local music scene, much of which was a complete mystery to us. We would often devote a whole weekend dropping the heavy stacks all around Petaluma, Santa Rosa, and Rohnert Park, all on our own dime (more like our parents’ dime back then). And it really was fun, we learned all about new bands, went to countless local shows, and even started forming our own band, unsuccessfully of course.
Now years later, I found myself helping to put the whole 10 year reunion show on, something I never would have guessed would happen. And I have to say, it was a lot of fun. It was great seeing the whole Skandalous Productions (stupid I know) crew again, and hearing all the great bands that existed way back when. Watching all those bands again this past weekend I’ve realized that the scene now a days doesn’t even compare. As much as everyone seems to complain about Section M and discredit it’s effect on the local scene (read the bohemian preview) it really did help foster a great music scene. I can only hope that the recent talk of a new Sonoma County music magazine really materializes into something great - we could really stand to benefit a great deal from it.
Anyway, enough about me and my opinions. Saturday was fantastic, thank you to everyone who came out to make it such a success. Also, a special thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this event happen, and to all the people who volunteered their time.

I think Michael slipped some Viagra in the drinks, because that show gave me the biggest boner I’ve had in years. Good call on putting up the Wunder Years issue. That was a good issue. I’m trying to read through the stack I got from the show, but that’s a lot of music and it kinda gets me sad after a while to know there will probably never be a scene that good around here ever again.
Unless, maybe, someone starts a Section M-like magazine/newspaper to support it…
